Compassionate Communication Practice Groups
Participating a Practice Group is a great way to continue learning about NVC in casual surroundings with people you know and enjoy being with. The group, usually 6-12 people, meet on a regular basis (1-4 times per month) at a time and day of the week the group chooses.
Typically, the group studies Marshall Rosenberg's, "Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life" together with Lucy Leu's companion workbook. The group commonly reviews one chapter during each session.
New Practice Groups (as of Jan. 2010)
We are forming two new practice groups that will begin meeting in a location in Columbus, OH the first week in January 2010:
- Tuesdays, 1 pm - 3 pm: begins Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010
- Mondays, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm: begins Monday, Jan. 4, 2010
Each member is asked to have access to a copy of 2 books:
• "Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life" by Marshall Rosenberg; and
• "Nonviolent Communication Companion Workbook" by Lucy Leu.
In case you would like to purchase a copy, we'll have copies available for sale at the first 3 meetings.
We anticipate 15 sessions to complete the initial Practice Group cycle to be organized as follows:
- Sessions 1-3: connection, empathy and orientation
- Sessions 4-15: NVC practice (using Marshall's book + workbook from Lucy Leu)
The first 3 meetings for each group will be the first 3 weeks of January 2010 (Jan. 4/5, 11/12, and 18/19) and from that point the group will become closed to new members, and will self-determine the meeting frequency (2-4 times per month) based on the member's needs and preferences.
There is no cost for the practice group, with two possible exceptions: 1) purchasing a book(s); and 2) making a voluntary donation to whatever venue agrees to host the group (probably a church).
We will provide 1 or 2 experienced facilitators from the community to help the group get started, who will gradually support groups members in taking leadership and eventually shift into the role of consultants for the group.
If you have any questions, email Jeff Brown or call 614-558-1141.
