Participate in our Community

Ways to get involved:

  • Attend one of our public trainings to learn and experience Compassionate Communication with a skilled trainer.
  • Join a practice group for ongoing, hands-on practice with a group of 6-12 people.
  • Volunteer or do "work exchange" for reduced or free attendance at one of our programs (see below for current opportunities).
  • Make a tax-deductible financial contribution to support our mission to promote peace, eliminate violence and work through conflict in our community.

Volunteer and Work Exchange Opportunities

If you are interested in any of the following volunteer opportunities, please call our office (614-558-1141) or email us with "Volunteer" in the subject heading. Include when would be a good time to contact you, as well as what skills you'd like to offer.

Office Support

One of our main needs for support is computer-savvy volunteers who will help with basic office tasks: answering phones, signing callers up for classes, entering data, etc. Have you had experience working in an office before? Are you good with attention to detail? Comfortable with computers, and able to learn new computer programs?

Do you have experience with Microsoft Word or Excel? Have you ever done mail-merge? Do you like to proof-read? Are you a clear and concise wordsmith? Do you enjoy answering the phone? We are happy to train you, and ideally you would be able to volunteer for a period of at least 3 months.

Community Outreach

We are often invited to attend community festivals, networking events and neighborhood association meetings. In order to participate in all of them, we are seeking volunteers to pass out literature and speak with people about the benefits of NVC.

These events vary in time and include weekdays, weekday evenings, and weekends.

Child Care

We like to support parents of young children to participate in our public events, so we offer childcare as often as possible. Do you enjoy spending time with children? Do you have experience being responsible for the care and safety of young people? If so, we would love to have your support for this important job!

Hosting out-of-town visitors for our public events

Our public events regularly attract people from out of town, and sometimes these visitors appreciate staying overnight with local people, both to conserve financial resources, and also to experience community. Do you have the ability to host overnight guests(s) in your home or in a property you own?

Introducing NVC at your workplace

We want to share the principles and practices of NVC into organizations in every sector in Central Ohio, including health care, education, criminal justice, social service organizations, corporations (large and small) and many others.

If you are a decision-maker at your workplace -- or if you have access to one -- please contact us to explore how we can bring NVC there.
